Status  

  • Registered with the GMC at time of taking up post 

  • Evidence of successful completion specialty training or already on the GMC or Irish Medical Council Specialist Register at time of taking up post 

  • Within two years of completion of specialty training 

Qualifications 

  • Relevant postgraduate qualification in surgery as demonstrated to enter the Specialist Register 

  • FRCS 

Clinical Experience 

 

  • At or above the level of a CCT holder at time of taking up post 

  • Previous experience of working within the National Health Service 

  • Evidence of continued experience commensurate with time since completion of specialty training 

Clinical Skills 

  • At or above the level of a CCT holder at time of taking up post  

  • Evidence of continued development of skills commensurate with time since completion of specialty training 

Knowledge 

  • Clinical knowledge of a day one consultant 

  • Shows knowledge of evidence-informed practice  

  • Shows awareness of own limitations  

  • Evidence of continued development of knowledge commensurate with time since completion of specialty training  

  • Demonstrates breadth of experience and awareness in and outside specialty 

  • Evidence of attendance at relevant courses 

Organisation  

& Planning 

  • Understanding of NHS, clinical organisation and planning 

  • Ability to prioritise clinical need with governance and resource constraints 

  • Ability to organise oneself & own work 

  • Experience of leadership

Teaching
