Influencing and Engaging for Change

Influencing skills are essential in today’s dynamic NHS workplace that is constantly evolving and changing. Success and outcomes can only be achieved through, with and from others.  Being able to influence without formal authority is an essential skill, and we cannot do this without confidence, commitment and the communication skills to fully express ourselves and engage our colleagues so they willingly work with us to make positive changes. As leaders our roles require that we draw on who we are, as well as what we do to inspire and engage our people.

On this 4-hour programme we will learn how to offer others the invitation to change (behaviour, attitudes, thoughts and beliefs) and embrace new ways in a committed way.

Specifically you will learn:

  • What influencing is
  • What influential leaders focus on
  • How to use different methods/strategies to influence effectively
  • How to gain respect through your communication
  • When to ‘push’ and when to ‘pull’ with your communication so you become an influential communicator
  • How to analyse and influence key stakeholders based on how committed/informed/influential they are
  • The power you have and how to use it rather than abuse it
  • Linking your style of influencing/leading to suit and influence your stakeholder
  • Understanding unique personalities and adapting influencing strategies to suit them
  • An insight into how we can use mentoring and coaching skills to effectively influence others

Our Influencing and Engaging for Change programme is designed to give Doctors and other supporting clinicians the confidence, competence and commitment to become not just a great influencer but also a truly influential person.

The Influencing and Engaging for Change Programme is delivered over one 4 hour session.  It will be delivered by virtual facilitator-led learning, with input from the facilitator, stories, examples and virtual break out groups so you can discuss the practical application with fellow Doctors. We will also watch video(s) to deepen our learning experience, Over a 4 hour session we will have two comfort breaks and time for personal reflection.

This programme has been designed to so that participants will be able to:

  • Influence upwards, downwards and sideways in such a way influencing becomes enjoyable rather than a challenge
  • Gain respect from others by your influential communication style
  • Use power effectively and practice egoless leadership and management
  • Know when to be directive with their communication, how to use questions to create intrigue and interest with their stakeholder and when to be the ‘guide by the side’
  • Know themselves and other people through their ‘personality energy’ to be adaptable in your style of influencing
