Severn Deanery has the responsibility to co-ordinate and manage postgraduate medical education within this region. With recent changes moving from specialist to specialty training all deaneries are required to meet the standards of training set by the GMC (General Medical Council). One mechanism to achieve these standards is through the development of 'Postgraduate Specialty Schools'. Severn is responsible for the governance, recruitment, budgets and administration systems for these Schools in the Severn area.

The continued successful development of the School of Psychiatry is a key part of the Severn deanery strategy. The challenge is in building and sustaining the growing reputation of the School of Psychiatry and creating an excellent environment for trainees

The role demands individuals with strong influencing and communications skills, able to work effectively with colleagues within all parts of the organisation and externally, and with the energy, conviction and personal impact that will inspire and gain the respect of others. Your key strengths will be your drive and to champion education, your operational focus will build on the enthusiasm and capability of your team to ensure the quality provision of trainees. You will need to demonstrate significant achievement in both an educational and senior manager role coupled with real commitment to a learning and development. The successful candidates will also demonstrate the commitment and ability to:

• Promote and support excellence in education
• Ensure that the quality of education and training for Specialty Trainees meets the standards laid down by the GMC
• Ensure that the delivery of training enhances the quality and safety of care for patients now and in the future
