Applications are invited for the post of Acute Care Common Stem Core Training Level 1 and Level 2 posts which are for one year only.
The postholder will be required to work at the following Trusts:-
- University Hospital Bristol NHS Foundation Trust;
- Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton
- North Bristol NHS Trust
There will be 10 vacancies in ACCS which are for one year only and the post comprise mainly of Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. There is one post which is Emergency Medicine and Acute Medicine based in Taunton.

University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust
North Bristol NHS Trust
Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton
There are 8 posts set at North Bristol Trust in various combinations between the 2 hospitals of Frenchay and Southmead. These posts will be in the specialties of Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine only.
There are currently 2 posts based at Bristol Royal Infirmary (UBHT) for 12 months in Emergency Medicine only.
There is a post available at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton which is 6 months Emergency Medicine and 6 months Acute Medicine
Information regarding each Trust/Hospital on training programme
The posts described above are all recognised for training within the Severn ACCS programme. They are entirely suitable for doctors completing their Foundation years training. Most of the posts are for 12 months. The posts in Acute medicine at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Anaesthesia / Intensive Crae Medicine are yet to be fully confirmed. All available posts will be confirmed by the date of the planned interviews (Tue 3rd May)
United Bristol Healthcare Trust (UBHT)
The Bristol Royal infirmary is based in the centre of Bristol. The Emergency Medicine department has an excellent reputation and sees a varied mix of patients. The Acute medicine placement will be split between the Acute medicine unit and the respiratory unit.
North Bristol Trust (Southmead and Frenchay Hospitals)
These hospitals are within the same trusts and trainees will be allocated between them. The exact nature of the rotations will be decided after appointment. Frenchay is the regional trauma centre and all emergency medicine attachments will be in this trust as there is no ED at Southmead. Frenchay is the regional neurosurgical, burns and plastics centre and has no maternity services on site. Southmead has the regional renal unit. Both hospitals have an Intensive Care Unit.
A large busy DGH 50 minutes south of Bristol down the M5. Training in this trust is split between the Severn and Peninsula deaneries. Trainees get good exposure to all elements of the ACCS programme. Hospital is regional centre for Bariatric surgery and has a busy ITU/HDU with up to 1000 admissions per annum.
