We have arranged extra master classes on key topics to compliment the established programme and which are available to all senior educators and professionals in Health Education South West, they include Heads of Schools, Directors of Medical Education and Training Programme Directors.

We are calling them “Senior Faculty Tutorials” as they are standalone sessions aimed at a wider audience that the Educational Strategy and Development focused series of master classes.

This session will explain how NHS Finances are configured now and in the future. It will explore the system of payment by results, tariffs and how they are being utilised in education within the NHS, and what this means for healthcare education specifically.

The presenter for this tutorial is Bob Dredge, who is, an honorary Senior Fellow in Financial Management at Keele University where he teaches healthcare finance on the health MBA and clinical leadership programmes. He also undertakes consultancy and advisory roles for the NHS, medical suppliers and the World Bank . He specialises in reimbursement processes.

In 2001 Bob was invited to become the Programme Manager for Financial Reforms at the Department of Health, where he led the team responsible for the initial design and implementation of Payment by Results. He has continued to work in this area and currently is the financial lead on the PbR project developing tariffs for rehabilitation services. He has also worked as a Finance Director in the NHS, as an advisor to the House of Commons Select Committee on Health and to the Welsh Assembly Government. He has been a non-executive of a PCT. He is a former chairman of the UK Healthcare Financial Management Association and has sat on several NHS finance committees, particularly in the area of costing and tariff development and governance. He has extensive teaching, lecturing experience and has written extensively on this subject.
