Severn Deanery Career Development Service Entitlement Statement
All doctors in training within the Severn Deanery are entitled to access free careers information, advice and guidance.
This is made available via:
- the careers pages of the Deanery website
- other appropriate websites
- telephone
- face to face
Careers information and advice may be provided by the following professionals:
- Consultants
- Educational Supervisors
- Clinical Tutors
- Trainees at higher stages of training
Careers guidance is provided by the Deanery Careers Adviser, who holds professional careers guidance and careers education qualifications.
Foundation doctors have the opportunity to experience presentations and workshops regarding careers information and career management which are usually delivered via the Foundation Teaching curriculum and Regional Training Days. Events regarding specific specialties are also made available to Foundation doctors and where a request is made for a careers session, this is arranged.
Please note, the Deanery Careers Service does not provide a job vacancy or placing service.
The Severn Deanery has also purchased the licence for the ‘Windmills for Doctors’ career management package and now has 8 ‘Windmills Champions’ who are able to deliver this to Foundation doctors. Information about these sessions will be circulated through Postgraduate Centres and on the website
Comments, Compliments or Complaints
All doctors in training are encouraged to make comments and suggestions regarding the careers support available to them and may do this through a variety of mechanisms:
- Trainee Survey
- GMC survey
- In person to their Educational supervisor, Clinical Tutor, Postgraduate Centre Manager, Foundation Programme Manager, Foundation School Director, Deanery Careers Adviser, Postgraduate Dean.
